New York Fashion Week: Scanty
Mickey Sills’ star is rising. The founder of Los Angeles–based Scanty loungewear recently won the Elle magazine–sponsored Mercury Milan Style Award competition, which was held in conjunction with the Mercury Division of Ford Motor Co.
The challenge was to design something to fit in the trunk of a Mercury Milan. Sills’ travel trunk won him a place in the top three competitors, and from there voters awarded him the grand prize—a fashion show during the recent New York Fashion Week and another in October on Miami’s South Beach.
Mills cashed in his prize Sept. 9 at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York with Scanty’s firstever fashion show.
The loungewear is known for a soft hand and fun prints. “We used to try to reinvent the wheel,” Sills said. But for Spring 2007, he wanted to “keep it simple” with flattering basic shapes and happy-colored tropical, heart, nautical and mod prints.
