SuperTarget Comes to Calif.
Stoneridge Towne Centre in Moreno Valley, Calif.—a new “power center” under development in the Inland Empire—will be the home of California’s first SuperTarget when it opens in 2007. SuperTarget, which is a concept similar to the Wal-Mart Super Center, offers a full line of hard and soft goods, as well as grocery items, baked goods and a delicatessen. The 188,000-square-foot SuperTarget will neighbor stores such as Kohl’s and Best Buy in Stoneridge Towne Centre, which started construction in May, according to Moreno Valley city officials. The development is being built along Highway 60 and Nason Street, which at build-out will comprise almost 600,000 square feet of retail space. The center is positioned to take advantage of a growing residential element. Stoneridge Ranch, a new master-planned community, is under development in East Moreno Valley. According to census reports, Moreno Valley is the sixth-fastest growing city in California and the 26th fastest-growing in the nation. Target Corp. recently unveiled a 3.1 million-square-foot distribution center a few miles away in Rialto. —Robert McAllister
