San Francisco Fashion Week 2006: Lily Samii
Designer Lily Samii’s background is in French dressmaking, but her skills were enhanced even more by apprenticing with fabled Hollywood designer Edith Head and noted couturier James Galanos. The result is a sophisticated collection of daywear and eveningwear that evokes an era of glamour that has become a staple of San Francisco’s high society.
Samii’s most recent collection took its inspiration from Great Britain with rich deep purples, burgundies and browns seen in fabrics that ranged from taffeta and velvet to silk and wool crepes. Samii is known for her fitted silhouettes and opulent accents of lace, which were in abundant presence in her collection, which showcased strapless gowns, snakeskin brown skirts and gowns with feather embroidery. Her creations have been in the display windows of Saks Fifth Avenue in San Francisco.
