San Francisco Fashion Week '06: HisByHer
Clean, simple lines with a 1930s flair was the idea behind the HisByHer’s Spring 2007 collection, which had unique accents to spice it up.
“We took in different aspects of the 1930s, like the music and the lifestyle, and designed a clean, wearable collection around that,” said Briana Swords, senior designer for the young line launched by Kimberlyn Underwood, a former vice president at Morgan Stanley.
Swords, working with designer Laura Sato, went back in time to create skirts with an A-line silhouette with pintucks down the center, back and sides and a paneled skirt with box pleats. A wide-legged pant made of superfine wool gabardine had original artwork embroidered up the side of one leg. A straight-leg pant made of a silk/wool blend added a touch of embroidery along the welt pockets. Particularly retro-looking was a mint-green cotton sateen trench coat with off-center emerald buttons. Emerald fabric accented the hem, waist and shoulders and the ends of the coat’s sleeves. “Special details are important to us,” Swords said. “Fashion is so mass-market. Our goal is to have pieces that are special to our customers.”
