L.A. Fashion Week Spring '07: Uriel Saenz
Uriel Saenz’s “Blossom” show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif., on Oct. 19 unveiled a Spring collection that was resplendent as a summer garden.
The L.A. designer incorporated a large dose of floral motifs throughout his abbreviated Spring collection, featuring fewer than 20 looks. He went from subtle to extreme, which he illustrated by using muted floral prints on halter tops to the more conspicuous clusters of florets hanging on a lapel or at the hip on his dresses. The crowning piece was a circular fully ruffled tube dress.
The floral motif was based on Saenz’s philosophical approach to his Spring collection: Women are like blooming flowers that only need a little nurturing to reveal their true colors.
Representative pieces included a floral halter top with ballerina skirt and a satin choker dress with beaded detailing. —Robert McAllister
