L.A. Fashion Week Spring '07: Candice Held
Candice Held has come a long way since she designed dresses from dish towel fabric. While the dish-towel–fabric dresses started the Seattle native’s design career in 2003, her fabric of choice for the past couple of seasons happens to be silk prints. For her Spring 2007 print, she went tropical. It was called Green Dream, and it debuted Oct. 16 at her runway show at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif. In the 45-look show, the tropical leafy print was used to make bandeau dresses, tunic tops, triangle halter dresses and accessories such as drawstring travel bags. Held also showed several looks with prints on cotton, but her silky styles returned with 26 looks created from recycled “vintage” scarves. With turquoise, green and orange colors, the dresses made a festive statement. Held also made sure that her garments flowed with grace. As a former professional dancer, she said that a focus for her label is to make clothes move well with the body. —Andrew Asch
