Harkham Launches Junior Dress Line, Relocates Headquarters
Harkham Industries, the Los Angeles–based manufacturer and retailer of the Jonathan Martin, Harkham and Hype apparel lines, has launched Johnny M., a new line of junior dresses. The company, which was founded in 1975, previously sold junior dresses under the Jonathan Martin brand, but dissolved that segment to launch a more focused collection.
Full of pretty dresses in a variety of fabrications, including silk, cotton and knits, the collection will target major department stores. Key silhouettes for the line, which borrows prints from some of Harkham’s other dress lines, are pinafore dresses, trapeze dresses, jumpers and maxi-length dresses. Launched at the Los Angeles Majors Market in October, the line will sell at Macy’s and Nordstrom. Retail prices for the line range from $48 to $68.
Hoping to keep up with the success of its apparel lines, Harkham Industries has moved its headquarters to 757 S. San Pedro St., a newly remodeled building in downtown’s Fashion District. The loft-style space houses the brand’s design center, customer-service department and Los Angeles showroom. The upgraded design center allows Harkham’s designers to develop original prints and designs for fabrics and lace. The company said it has also moved its manufacturing operations to China. The manufacturer’s brands can be found in more than 2,000 stores, including Planet Blue and Barneys New York in Los Angeles.
