Duarte Defaults in Kramer Lawsuit
Los Angeles designer Henry Duarte and his Duarte Productions Inc. face damages of more than $1 million after defaulting in a lawsuit filed against Duarte by Designers & Agents trade show co-founder Barbara Kramer.
Duarte failed to respond to the complaint within 30 days of being served papers and now faces a judgment to be determined by the court. Kramer filed a suit on Aug. 9 in Los Angeles Superior Court charging Duarte with fraud and breach of contract and is seeking more than $1 million in damages stemming from a previous business venture between her and Duarte. Most of the damages sought stem from back rent for real estate Duarte and Kramer leased from a Los Angeles landlord.
Kramer’s attorney, Lloyd S. Mann of the Sherman Oaks, Calif.–based law firm Mann & Zarpas LLP, said he will soon submit documentation to the court to determine the amount of the judgment against Duarte. —Robert McAllister
