TALA's Rosa Gurerro, 42
Rosa Gurerro, administrative assistant and office manager for the Textile Association of Los Angeles, died on Oct. 12 after a severe asthma attack.
For many people, Gurerro was the face of the TALA office in the California Market Center, where she worked for nearly seven years.
Ann Davis, TALA member and former president of the organization, hired Gurerro and praised her deftness in handling textile queries.
“Rosa was an integral part of TALA,” Davis said. “She was a font of information. Designers, students, anyone could call her for information and she had it at her fingertips.”
Gurerro had suffered from acute asthma for many years; still, her death came as a shock to those who knew her.
“She had a great heart and a great sense of humor; she got on with just about everyone,” recalled Gilbert Cabrera, manager of facility sales for the CMC, who had been friends with Gurerro since they attended Abraham Lincoln High School in Los Angeles.
“I’m going to miss her,” he continued. “She was a great person and a great mother.”
Cabrera said he will miss “that smiling face of hers,” recalling the last time the two spoke, when they shared a laugh about a song Gurerro had downloaded.
“She will be missed by all of us,” said Hal Kaltman, TALA president. “She was the heart and soul of the TALA office.”
Gurerro leaves behind two children, daughter Alexia and son Rudy. She is also survived by her parents, Paul and Victoria Gurerro, sister Alicia, and brothers Paul, Robert and Jose Luis.
A rosary was scheduled for her on Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Church in Los Angeles. A memorial Mass was scheduled Oct. 21 at 8 a.m., also at Sacred Heart. —Alison A. Nieder
