L.A. Fashion Week Spring '07: Meghan Fabulous
Designer Meghan Fabulous’ recent whirlwind travel schedule inspired her Spring ’07 collection.
“My research was all around me,” said Fabulous. “I was really inspired by everywhere I would go.” The designer debuted her “No-Tel Motel” collection Oct. 15 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif. The tongue-in-cheek theme conveyed the concept of a girl traveling the world, having fun and dressing up for her adventures.
The designer’s eclectic style and fun spirit were evident in the collection, which melded casual with dressy. Hoodies were paired with Fabulous’ signature “bikini” slip-style dresses, trench coats were topped with crochet hats made of beer cans, and ethnic dresses were accessorized with large sunglasses and layers of beaded necklaces. Styles spanned the 1960s through the 1980s, with fabric inspiration from hotel lounges, draperies and sheets. One dress was made of “nudie” cards and another of beer caps acquired on the designer’s travels. Butterfly prints, Missoni-esque knits with sparkling insets, feminine lace and ethnic touches characterized the look.
“I put it in my Meghan blender, and then I pour my cocktail,” the designer said. —N. Jayne Seward
