Ferragamo Hits the Walk of Style
Salvatore Ferragamo was honored with a plaque on Rodeo Drive’s Walk of Style on Oct. 8. Celebrities and Ferragamo family members were among the guests the gala celebration in Beverly Hills. Festivities featured a fashion show of Ferragamo’s Spring 2007 collection, and a performance by the Grammy award–winning Kanye West.
Ferragamo, who died in 1960 at age 62, became legendary for crafting footwear for Hollywood films, such as the ruby slippers in “Wizard of Oz.” His company, which is still run by Ferragamo family members, became an international fashion icon as it developed divisions for ready-to-wear, fragrance and accessories as well as developing its heritage in footwear.
Salvatore Ferragamo was the eighth recipient of Rodeo Drive’s Walk of Style award. Past recipients include Giorgio Armani (2003); Tom Ford (2004); joint honorees Herb Ritts and Mario Testino (2005); and Edith Head, James Acheson and Milena Canonero (2006).
