Ourtranslation: Jewelry With a Sense of History
Designers Annie Goodwin and Heather Allman are putting history into their line of reconstructed vintage jewelry, Ourtranslation, based in Manhattan Beach, Calif.
The new line includes one-of-akind pieces made from vintage jewelry and hardware.
The designers scour local flea markets for materials they use to make Ourtranslation’s bracelets, necklaces, rings and earrings.
The line currently sells in Manhattan Beach boutiques Bombshell, Petros Vintage and Flip Flop, as well as the Principessa boutique in Los Angeles’ Venice district and Apt. 3 in Los Angeles.
The designers draw on their own experiences for inspiration. For example, Allman said she was inspired by old house keys she found in her house and liked the idea of wearing something with a sense of history around her neck. Indeed, the house-key jewelry is part of Ourtranslation’s most popular line, called “Rummage,” which consists of keys, pearls, coins, semiprecious stones, and locks that the designers have reconstructed into bracelets and necklaces on 14k–karat gold-filled chains.
The designers are still setting their wholesale prices, but Ourtranslation’s retail prices range from $60 to $200.
The designers want to sell the line to additional retail stores. But they plan to limit distribution to allow them to maintain the collection’s one-of-a-kind concept.
