FGI-SF Talks Trends
More than 200 San Francisco fashionistas, designers and industry insiders were given a preview of Spring trends from Paris, Milan, London, New York and Los Angeles at a recent Fashion Group International event held Nov. 14 in San Francisco at the W Hotel.
FGI–San Francisco presented the Spring 2007 ready-to-wear runway trends with a DVD program by Marylou Luther, columnist for International Fashion Syndicate and a discussion by a panel of industry experts. Co-hosted by Wilkes Bashford, owner of his 40-year-old eponymous specialty retail store, and Mary Frances Shaffer, founder and designer of Mary Frances Accessories, the evening included a welcome by FGI–San Francisco’s regional director, Lilly Stamets, and an introduction by event chair Stephanie Searle. The panel members—Ben Ospital, co-owner of MAC (Modern Appealing Clothing) boutique; designer Cari Borja; Lucky magazine’s Chloe Redmond Warner; stylist and TV host Katie Rice Jones; and Jayne Seward, fashion editor of California Apparel News—offered their perspectives on the season’s trends and their relevance to the streets of San Francisco.
Former Mayor Willie Brown made a guest appearance, and Stamets presented Erica Gessin, founder of San Francisco Fashion Week, with a Special Achievement Award. The event also showcased up-and-coming design talent with an installation by student designers from the Academy of Art University, who presented designs shown in Bryant Park during New York Fashion Week.
