Knitting for Home
Los Angeles–based sweater and knitwear designer Suss Cousins kicked off the book-signing tour for her latest book, “Home Knits: Luxurious Handknits for Every Room of the House,” Nov. 7 at her Suss Designs boutique in Los Angeles.
The Swedish designer headed off on a tour that included stops in New York; Philadelphia; Washington, D.C.; and Chicago to promote the book, which includes patterns, instructions and ideas for incorporating hand-knitted items around the home.
At the Nov. 7 event, about 100 guests enjoyed Swedish meatballs and other hors d’oeuvres, while perusing some of the designs featured in the book, such as basketweave pillows, alpaca lampshades and Ultrasuede hanger covers.
Cousins has built a following for her knits line and for her knitting classes, held weekly at her Beverly Boulevard boutique. In addition to designing for her wholesale and retail clients, Cousins has created original costumes for films, including “Shall We Dance?,” “The Matrix,” “Master and Commander” and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” Her designs have also appeared on TV shows, including “Friends,” “Gilmore Girls” and “Will and Grace.”
“Home Knits,” published by Potter Craft/Crown Publishing Group, is Cousins’ third book.
Her first two, “Hollywood Knits: Thirty Original Suss Designs” and “Hollywood- Style Knits,” were published in 2002 and 2004, respectively.
The designer-turned-author has a fourth book coming in January called “Wedding Knits: Handknit Gifts for Every Member of the Wedding Party.” —Alison A. Nieder
