Hippie Ink Expands Sales With New Reps
Hippie Ink, a 2-year-old updated line of retro-inspired tops and accessories from Los Angeles designer Jennifer Ashley, is now being represented at the California Market Center by Sharon Koshet Sales and Salt & Pepper Sales. Both showrooms are located on the third floor in the B wing of the CMC and will have the lines on display during the June market.
Koshet is selling Hippie Ink tanks, tees, hoodies and caps. Salt & Pepper is selling Hippie Ink belts and purses, which are hand studded and fringed.
The 50-piece, organic-cotton line features combat and retro looks with camouflage prints and studded crosses, butterflies, hearts and peace signs.
“The response to the Hippie Ink belts has been exceptional,” said Salt & Pepper’s Emmalena Brand. “The belts are such a unique, hot item in the marketplace and are being received very well by our better specialty stores.”
Koshet and designer Ashley share something else in common—they have adopted children. Ashley, who is expanding the collection with a kids’ line of shirts featuring slogans like “Love Is Not an Option,” said a portion of the line’s sales will be donated to adoption agencies in Southern California.
The line has gained such celebrity fans as Jennifer Aniston, Eva Longoria, Avril Lavigne and Courtney Cox. Ashley originally started the line as a custom collection for her and friends but decided to expand distribution to meet an increase in demand.
Wholesale price points: $80 to $125 for belts and purses; $50 for hoodies; $25 to $32 for tops; $18 for hats.
