FIDM Student Receives Award
Christina Wong, a student at Los Angeles– based Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, won the Gerber WebPDM Achievement Award for computer skills she used in developing a denim collection as part of her thesis.
Tolland, Conn.–based Gerber Technology presented the award on April 5 to the student who best demonstrated skills in using the company’s WebPDM software program, which manages specs and other data throughout the supply chain during the pre-production process.
Wong received the award at FIDM’s International Manufacturing and Product Development Advanced Study Programs graduate thesis presentation. The program is aimed at providing students with the hands-on skills necessary to compete in global apparel manufacturing and product development. Students participate in all phases of the product development cycle, from drafting a concept to marketing. This year, 12 students participated and developed lines with corporate partner VF Corp., a Greensboro, N.C.–based apparel maker. —Robert McAllister
