Los Angeles Fashion Week Fall '06: Corey Lynn Calter
Corey Lynn Calter returned to the runway after a two-season hiatus.
The designer, who took time off from L.A. Fashion Week after the birth of her daughter, returned March 22 with the showing of her Fall ’06 collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios.
“My inspiration is a country girl, but the funny thing about that is that I’ve never been to the country,” the designer said. “I’m a born-andraised city girl. I have sort of a city girl’s image of what I really think the country girl would be like.”
For Calter, it’s a chic, well-traveled country girl who would wear her eclectic mix of ethnic-inspired prints, botanical Asian-print kimono dresses, 1980s-inspired shapes, feminine lace dresses and vintageinspired coats. Calter said her style is all about creating clothing for a girl who continually builds her wardrobe and dares to break the rules. A berry-print blouse was paired with “Lumber Jane” jumper shorts; a floral-print blouse was worn with plaid pants; a silk dress with macrameacute; detail was paired with a colorful crochet sweater coat; and a floral-print dress was topped off with a fur-trimmed Mongolian vest. —N.
