Los Angeles Fashion Week 2006: Taverniti So Jeans
For those expecting to see miles of denim on the runway, Taverniti So Jeans’ Fall ’06 runway show was anything but typical. Instead, designer Jimmy Taverniti presented a collection that was pure rock ’n’ roll couture. The French designer said the show, which was presented March 21 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios, was “an homage to jeans with a touch of couture.” It paired looks from the Taverniti So Jeans premium denim line with many one-of-kind pieces made especially for the runway.
The line, which launched last year, used the runway as an opportunity to experiment with new fits, fabric and details. The collection included such basics as T-shirts, skirts and a new “legging” skinny-fit jean mixed with couture pieces.
Punk-inspired red tartan plaids were mixed with military-inspired jackets; intricately seamed corset dresses were worn over denim; military trench coats with distressed-denim jeans; and a see-through, army-green flight suit left little to the imagination.
For men, striped sweaters, shrunken leather jackets and T-shirts were a perfect match with dark, skinny-fit jeans.
