Los Angeles Fashion Week Fall '06: Chan Luu
For designer Chan Luu, the point of difference is in the details, but that makes sense when you consider that Luu started in the accessories business.
The Vietnam-born designer grew her Los Angeles–based accessories line for nearly 20 years before expanding into apparel in 2004.
This season, the Los Angeles–based designer opted to showcase her collection in her home—a clean and modern space with a spectacular view of a canyon in the Pacific Palisades. The weather was perfect and the crisp, minimalist interior served as a striking backdrop for her collection, which featured demure, vintage-inspired pieces with thoughtful details like scalloped edges that turned up on hems, collars and on the yoke of a dress. A gray silk dress had petal-like sleeves and a scarf neckline, while a wool skirt was delicately pleated on one side to create a halfbubble effect. The petal effect also turned up on the skirt of a black silk dress. A black crushed-cotton dress had a crochet lace neckline that lent the ensemble an Arts and Crafts–era look.
Naturally, the models were well accessorized with Luu’s jewelry in onyx and pearl, as well as her ladylike beaded handbags.
