Los Angeles Fashion Week Fall '06: Alan Del Rosario
Alan Del Rosario returned to the Los Angeles Fashion Week runways on March 21 with his new collection for Fall 2006, which he showed at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios.
The Los Angeles designer has been designing for other companies in recent seasons but picked up where he left off with his signature sexy silhouettes and romantic details.
This season, Del Rosario set the tone with a tango soundtrack that ushered in a series of gowns and two-piece dresses in silk chiffon, silk charmeuse, silk taffeta and lace.
The designer’s dresses featured subtle tucks, pleats, ruching and lacing to create curve-skimming mermaid skirts that ended in a cloud of ruffles or sweeping layers of chiffon. Some of his best included dresses that paired a black-and-white pinstripe taffeta with a windowpane check pattern. He also created interesting optical effects using layers of polka-dot chiffon.
The designer showed his edgier side with corset-style dresses in black leather and chiffon. On the romantic side, he topped a mermaid skirt in cream silk with red embroidered flowers with an architectural bustier top in red silk taffeta. Another architectural piece was a gray silk taffeta gown with a bubble skirt and taffeta roses that had the look of unfired clay.
