Cotton Uptick
Demand for organically grown cotton is expected to propel global sales to $2.6 billion by the end of 2008, according to a new report released by Oakland, Calif.–based Organic Exchange. Global sales of organic cotton products have grown at an average rate of 35 percent per year over the last five years, while U.S. sales grew by 55 percent to $275 million in 2005, according to the report. Much of the growth is coming through apparel and home products. The largest users include Patagonia, Nike and Sam’s Club/Wal-Mart.
