Revelation Showroom

After years of working for other people, newlyweds Teri Abbott Pierce and Jason Pierce are stepping out on their own to launch their first showroom representing several contemporary lines.
Teri has more than 15 years of sales experience in the apparel industry, including stints at Chorus Line, Carole Little, Barbara Lesser and XCVI.
Jason also used to work for XCVI, in sales and production.
But after the couple was married seven months ago, they decided it would be better to have their own showroom if they wanted to see more of each other.
Two months ago, the couple launched a whirlwind business plan in which they found seven lines to represent and a showroom on the fifth floor of the California Market Center, and hunted for odds and ends to decorate the 1,100-square-foot showroom.
They hunted on eBay for vintage fashion magazines they will frame and hang on their showroom walls. They scoured a flea market in Pasadena, Calif., for a wringer from an old washing machine and antique irons that will accentuate some of the five showing areas inside the showroom. They found dark brown leather chairs and a long leather ottoman that will match the dark brown hardwood floors. “We were getting to the point that we didn’t want to see another piece of furniture,” Jason conceded.
The pair quickly found several up-and-coming contemporary lines to represent, including L.A. Air Line, a Los Angeles company that makes novelty screen-printed T-shirts, tank tops and hoodies that wholesale from $30 to $90; Wifebeader, a unique collection of racer-back T-shirts made of vintage cotton and accented with beads and Swarovski crystals, and hoodies, cropped jackets and dresses that wholesale from $19 to $70; Point Zero, a Canadian sportswear line that does novelty T-shirts, twill jackets with embroidery, denim and twill pants, and velveteen skirts with wholesale prices ranging from $15 to $54; and Beija Brazil, a Los Angeles yoga/activewear line of soft clothing made of lyocell, a cellulose-derived fabric. Wholesale price points range from $19 to $49. Other lines represented are Silver Charm, Jane Blue and Vital Image. —Deborah Belgum
