Whiteboy Goes Public
Los Angeles–based Sub-Urban Brands Inc., maker of 3-year-old streetwear brand Whiteboy, went public on May 16. Now trading on the Over the Counter Bulletin Board stock exchange, Sub-Urban reached its initial public offering via a reverse-merger with DP&D Inc., a Higley, Ariz.–based event planning company.
Sub-Urban has been on the growth track in recent months. Whiteboy has recently hired a design director for its men’s line, as well as a design director for its new women’s Whiteboy line, which is set to launch in July at the Pool trade show in New York, said Joe Shortal, Sub-Urban’s chief executive. Also new to the team is a director of production.
Established as a logo-driven T-shirt and hat line, Whiteboy began offering a full men’s collection for Fall 2006. Sub-Urban executives are hoping to draw an injection of funds by going public.
“It gives us the opportunity to raise a lot of money hellip; and fund our overall operation,” Shortal said. —Erin Barajas
