Miami Runway Report: Red Carter
“Unrelenting cuteness” is an accurate way to describe designer Red Carter’s eponymous 2007 Resort line, which bowed on the runway July 16. Heavy on retro good-girl, bad-girl and nautical themes, Carter’s collection earned him the first standing ovation of the swim shows.
Sweet flowered prints were shaped into a pleated and tiered one-piece. Bikinis ranged from ruffled confections to striped she-pirate get-ups. Siren red, stark white and navy blue combined for a classic nautical group that was more campy than preppy.
One-pieces received a dose of sex appeal with gold hardware, swaths of bare skin, bright colors and bondage-inspired details. Touching on a big trend, Carter showed solid gold bikinis and one-pieces that would make any roller-girl blush. Coverups ranged from a sheerest chiffon tunic embellished with strategically placed embroidery to flirty robes and cotton gauze trapeze dresses.
