Miami Runway Report: Norma Kamali
The tent was packed for the July 18 Norma Kamali show, which didn’t disappoint. The iconic designer showed her 2007 swimwear collection, and it was classic Kamali. From the moment the first gold metallic retro one-piece took to the runway, the audience knew it was in for a show. The fashion veteran, who is known for creating innovative swimwear and fleece apparel in the 1980s, showed a collection that alternated between 1950s pinup styles, Grecian-inspired dresses and edgy dominatrix looks. The palette in solid white, red, black and gold metallic was classic, yet modern. Shirring, ruffles, cutouts and skirted silhouettes characterized the retro styles. The designer offered sexy minimalist styles with cutouts, plunging necklines and skimpy thong bottoms, which conveyed a futuristic S&M look. Leggings and footwear with cutouts gave the collection a couture edge. —N. Jayne Seward
