Miami Runway Report: Becca by Rebecca Virtue
Rebecca Virtue took buyers and editors on a walk through her “Garden of Virtue” on July 17 for the showing of her 2007 Becca collection. Models strolled a runway strewn with flowers, capturing the mood of the feminine, romantic-themed collection. Virtue’s garden included a wide range of florals, from romantic English roses to Asian cherry blossoms and California seaside botanicals. She paid homage to the feminine form by creating beautiful, yet sexy, silhouettes through draping and sculpting the fabrics.
“It’s kind of been more of an art form,” said the designer, speaking of this season’s collection. “I think that our Becca gal is someone who really just wants to be pretty. She wants to be positive about herself, she wants to be sexy, but she also wants to be comfortable and confident with herself. And I think this year we’ve really homed in on that.”
Handcrafted details such as crochet, embroidery, macrameacute;, beading and fringe decorated garments for a “one-of-a-kind” feeling. Prints were mixed with floral embroideries and eyelet-cutout treatments to add a Victorian flavor. Standout pieces included a botanical print trikini with a beaded macrameacute; midriff, a hand-knit green dress with a fleur-de-lis pattern, a blue and white bikini paired with white crochet pants, and a metallic lilac bikini topped by a hooded mesh bodysuit trimmed with flowers. —N.
