H&M Announces Pasadena, L.A. Stores
Swedish retailer Hennes & Mauritz, LP will open more than four stores in Los Angeles and Orange counties by the end of 2006, according to a company representative. One store will be located on Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena, Calif. Another will be built in the Beverly Center, a Taubman Company–based shopping center in West Los Angeles.
H&M will also build two additional stores in the San Francisco Bay Area by early fall. One store will be located in Walnut Creek, and another in Concord. H&M opened its first two California stores in San Francisco in November 2005.
The company is eager to expand in California, said Lisa Sandberg, an H&M spokeswoman. But the decision to open a new store hedges on securing the right kind of space. “Getting the best storefronts and locating in the best shopping districts is important. Sometimes we have to wait to open them up,” Sandberg said.
The Pasadena H&M will be located in a former United Artists Theatre building, neighboring Pasadena’s Tiffany & Co. at 68 W. Colorado Blvd. The 12,000-square-foot store will offer a boutique milieu similar to the retailer’s Polk Street store in San Francisco. The store’s inventory will concentrate on women’s and young women’s fashions.
The Beverly Center location will offer H&M’s full line including men’s fashions, Sandberg said. This store will be 25,000 square feet. A representative of Beverly Center confirmed that H&M will be a tenant but declined to comment on the store’s location in the luxury mall. —Andrew Asch
