Ferragamo Hits the Walk of Fame
Upscale footwear, accessories and apparel maker Salvatore Ferragamo will be this year’s honoree at the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style Awards, hosted by the city of Beverly Hills and the Rodeo Drive Committee.
An awards ceremony will be held in October, when members of the Ferragamo family will be on hand to accept the award on behalf of the Italian design house. A plaque honoring the iconic brand will be installed in the sidewalk on Rodeo Drive. The plaque will feature the signature of founder Salvatore Ferragamo, who died in 1960, as well as a quote from him.
Ferragamo, the brand, is a familiar fixture in Beverly Hills, where it has had a boutique since 1991. Ferragamo, the designer, had similar ties to the city, getting his start designing custom-made footwear for the film industry shortly after immigrating to the United States in 1914, opening stores first in Santa Barbara, Calif., and then in Hollywood in the ’20s. He returned to Italy in 1927 and set up his headquarters in Florence, where it remains today.
Salvatore Ferragamo is the fifth recipient of a Walk of Style award, which was launched in 2003. Previous honorees include photographers Herb Ritts and Mario Testino (2005), and designers Tom Ford (2004) and Giorgio Armani (2003).
