Lagerfeld Techs Up N.Y. Fashion Week
Karl Lagerfeld is employing the latest cutting-edge audio-visual technology to spice up his Feb. 10 runway show during New York Fashion Week.
The German designer’s show will be available for viewing minutes after the live fashion presentation via a Podcast made available through Apple’s iTunes music store at itunes.com or through a link at karllagerfeld.com.
New York–based CoreAudioVisual is producing the Podcast as well as other promotional content for the event.
The runway show will be taped in high definition and edited on-site using Apple’s Final Cut Pro editing software with motion-based graphics. Lagerfeld will also use Aperture, Apple’s new post-production tool that will allow the designer’s staff to file through thousands of images from the show to cull the best ones for promotion and editorial needs.
CoreAV executives said the Feb. 10 production would be the first time the technology is being used for a fashion show.
The company is also using the show to introduce a proprietary bit of Apple-based technology called “Barney,” which uses images of the Lagerfeld brand that are manipulated in real time and triggered by the movement of people in a room and by the music that’s playing.
The images are displayed on a flat-panel screen or projected in almost any environment. It allows people to collaborate with a brand visually to create their own unique experiences. —Robert McAllister
