On the Move With Nisa
First it was the Mission District. In July it was the Noe Valley retail section. Contemporary label Nisa San Francisco Inc. has been opening new stores all over San Francisco.
The 9-year-old womenswear label, named for the Arabic word for woman, carved out retail space in its Mission District design studio in 2003, but Nisa co-owner/partner Umay Mohammed said the retail space was used most often as a showroom. The Noe Valley boutique is the label’s first serious retail venture.
The 600-square-foot store offers garments from the Nisa San Francisco label as well as some menswear and jewelry designed by Bay Area designers. Retail price points range from $85 for a shirt to $188 for a jacket. The core audience for the label is women under 25 years of age.
Mohammed hopes that Nisa will eventually open a store on San Francisco’s Haight Street as well as stores in New York and Los Angeles. In the meantime, Mohammed will take the label to the Project Global Trade Show in Las Vegas in February. —Andrew Asch
