Gypsy 05: Insider T-Shirts
For years, Los Angeles–based dye house owner Osi Shoham helped designers achieve innovative and unique garment-dye treatments for their lines. “It’s something I really enjoyed doing,” she said. But Shoham knew she could do more than what the designers were asking of her.
In 2005, she launched Gypsy 05, a line of high-end T-shirts for men and women, to bring her ideas to life. Shoham and her brother Dotan run both businesses from her studio at the Pacific Blue dye house. “It’s really convenient,” she said. “I have everything right here.”
The line, which features embellishments, grommets, embroidery, screen prints and lace, is a showcase for her garment-dye wizardry and free spirit. Gypsy 05, which Osi Shoham said was about comfort and freedom, includes T-shirts, tanks, tunics, hoodies and thermals. Each design is available in four colors, and many bear some sort of image, including birds, horses and flowers.
The line, which ships 12 times per year, offers new items each month. Shoham develops new colors and treatments for each new group and season. Hoodies are paired with matching pants, complete with complimentary embroidery, for a complete sweatsuit look. Wholesale prices for the line range from $29 to $34 for short-sleeved tops; longsleeved tops start at $40. Hoodies are $70 and pants $58.
