Hippie Ink's New Tees Carry Special Message
Designer Jennifer Ashley of the Los Angeles–based women’s resource Hippie Ink hopes that the company’s latest series of tops will make more than just a fashion statement. Part of the sales for the company’s new “Love Is Not an Option” tops will be donated to adoption agencies.
The project is a collaborative effort between Hippie Ink designer/ owner Ashley and her West Coast rep Sharon Koshet, who operates Sharon Koshet Sales in the California Market Center in downtown Los Angeles. Both women have adopted children.
“We just wanted to give something back,” said Ashley. “When you bring a child into your life, you have to love them. It’s not an option, and that’s the message on these shirts.”
The shirts, which read “Love Is” on the front and “Not an Option” on the back, will be in Koshet’s showroom in Suite B335 of the CMC during the Aug. 11–15 Los Angeles Fashion Market, as well as at the MAGIC Marketplace Aug. 28–31 in Las Vegas. The shirts will be featured in short and long sleeves and in Hippie’s new childrenswear line. Price points are in the mid-$20s.
One beneficiary, Nightlight Christian Adoptions in Fullerton, Calif., helps place children from the United States, as well as from foreign countries where economic and living conditions are often sub par.
“The biggest thing we need is to make everyone more aware,” said Ron Stoddart, an attorney who manages Nightlight. “We’re grateful for Sharon and Jennifer’s efforts.”
Ashley hopes the shirts catch on like her other tops and leggings, which are now sold in boutiques such as On Sunset, Robert Ellis and Champagne.
The new kidswear line features organic cotton tees, tanks and hoodies in sizes 2–12 in mostly “Mommy & Me” styles reflecting Hippie’s main line, which features graphics and embellishments such as butterflies, crowns, peace signs, skulls and other icons.
