Three Girls Running by Rebecca Danenberg

Veteran contemporary designer Rebecca Danenberg applied her collection-based design experience to create sophisticated tailored denim pieces for her new line, Three Girls Running.

Danenberg focused on a tight collection of premium-denim basics with superior fit for the line’s launch at the recent Design Suites at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and Brighte Cos. show. The core of the line is sleek, fitted denim jeans and sharp and sexy denim and corduroy blazers.

“It’s really easy. It’s not complicated because life is complicated,” Danenberg said of the pieces she wants customers to wear every day. “Simplicity is the highest form of sophistication.”

The native New Yorker used to design her own eponymous contemporary clothing line, which specialized in blousy knits and sexy trousers that appealed to a West Coast audience and such retailers as Fred Segal and Lisa Kline. Danenberg moved to Los Angeles nearly five years ago to work for 7 for All Mankind as senior designer for the women’s division after folding her contemporary clothing line.

In Three Girls Running, Danenberg is letting her creativity flow in the denim elements in the lines.

“[Washing denim is] more creative than sewing up a pair of trousers,” she said. “It’s very personal, like a fine wine. It’s aged properly.”

For the tops, Danenberg altered blousestyle designs into sheer wool jersey and sheer cotton jersey fabric with a comfortable and sexy innerwear feeling.

Three Girls Running is part of Charles Park’s company, Offline, which includes contemporary line Inspira and young contemporary line Sugar Lips.

It is no surprise that Park has a soft spot for Three Girls Running, the only denim line in his company. Park previously worked for Industrial ColChem Inc., a business that developed and sold chemicals used for denim-wash processing.

“We believe that Three Girls Running is going to be the main key brand in the group,” Park said.

Three Girls Running has been sold at Fred Segal Flair and Bleu, both in Los Angeles.

Bleu owner Gabrielle Zuccaro carried Rebecca Danenberg’s contemporary line when she opened her store eight years ago. Though Danenberg has not produced a line under her own name for many years, Zuccaro said her customers still remember her name.

“She’s incredible,” Zuccaro said. “I had a great following because of her. Half my customers still wear Rebecca Danenberg pieces. Her trousers were the best-fitting trousers out there.”

Zuccaro did not hesitate to order the Three Girls Running line when she heard that Danenberg was designing her own line.

“It’s fantastic,” Zuccaro said. “It’s going to be the best denim line out there. I think she put [7 for All Mankind] on the map. She made it huge.”

Price points range from $20 to $80 for jersey tees, $79 to $120 for jeans and up to $180 for blazers.
