Linea Pelle Handbags
Linea Pelle Inc., the 20-year-old Los Angeles–based company known for its denim-friendly, low-slung leather belts, launched a new line of handbags for Fall 2006.
The washed leather and suede handbags are adorned with military-inspired studs, brass ring hardware and buckles that complement Linea Pelle Collection’s signature belt styles.
Andrew Cotton, vice president and creative director of Linea Pelle’s new handbag line, said the handbags are a “natural extension” of the belt company. Cotton previously consulted for various companies and worked at Gap Inc. in the men’s, kids’ and baby accessories’ departments.
Among the best-selling styles are those that Cotton designed with several compartments for maximum functionality. Pockets with magnetic closures and zippers allow for quick access to a cell phone or keys.
In addition to basic colors of bone white, black and cocoa brown, the bags are available in such vibrant colors as rusty orange and a cloud-like color with a hint of blue.
“With Linea Pelle, it’s all about color,” said Cotton, who added that colorful accessories are an easy way to “jazz up” a wardrobe. “Going forward for Fall II [deliveries], it’s all about color, color and more color.”
The line has been sold to such stores as Billy Martin’s in West Hollywood and SX in Ir vine, Calif. Wholesale prices range from $160 to $298.
