Chrome Clothing

CYCLING IN STYLE: San Francisco–based manufacturer Chrome, known for its functional bicycle messenger bags with a hip urban attitude, introduced the first item of its new clothing line earlier this year.

The “Shins” knicker marks Chrome’s return to manufacturing clothing after the company folded its mountain bike clothing line in 1997 to focus on messenger bags.

Rob Reedy, Chrome’s director of marketing, said the clothing is a functional and stylish alternative to neon- and brightly colored bike gear.

Following the first item’s release, Chrome will introduce jackets and a riding vest with the same utility edge for urban cyclists. —Rhea Cortado

KEY LOOKS: The stretch nylon/spandex “Shins” knicker features articulated knees for ease of riding a bike, a lightly padded seat, zippered pockets and water-resistant fabric. A jacket will feature an iPod pocket and reflective flaps that can be hidden when not riding.

PRICE POINTS: $85 retail for knickers; call for pricing on jackets.
