On Sept. 17, Los Angeles–based Suss Design opened a store in anhattan at 281 Lafayette St., said Suss Cousins, the Swedish-born owner-designer of the 10-year-old knitwear company. The 1,600-square-foot store is expected to earn more than 400,000 in 2006. The store design features a skylight, brick walls and dark wood floors. The outique’s price points will be from $79 for basics such as a top or a vest to $1,000 for such one-of-a-kind pieces as a hand-crocheted coat. Cousins will teach a knitting class at the New York store once a week. The designer mogul proved that knitting can make for a dramatic visual display. The opening of the Manhattan boutique showcased a model, above, knitting in the store window. The original Suss Design store is located at 7350 Beverly Blvd. in Los Angeles, where Cousins also holds knitting classes. —Andrew Asch
