Swimwear Shines in Las Vegas

The desert was the perfect spot for Heat, a new fashion show organized by WWDMAGIC and the International Swimwear/Activewear Market (ISAM).

Heat was prompted by the addition of ISAM to the MAGIC Marketplace this season. It showcased the collections at the Las Vegas trade show and included some of the hottest swimwear trends for Cruise 2006.

The fashion show ran twice daily Aug. 29–31 on the Fashion Show Stage in the Grand Lobby of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

It featured some of the biggest names in swim, including Gottex, Christina America, L*Space, Chio di Stefania D, Red Carter, Rampage Swim, Lenny, Brigitte Couture, Hot Kiss and Robin Piccone.

Animal prints, such as leopard and the newest snakeskin varieties, opened the show. Standout looks included a metallic turquoise-and-bronze python halter bikini by Sauvage, an orange reptile-print monokini by Cyn & Luca, and a python bandeau and skirt by Anne Klein New York.

Suits in bronze and gold captured the latest looks in metallics. Sequins and beading adorned bikinis with flower, stripe and elephant motifs.

Maillots in electric brights—such as fuchsia, turquoise, tangerine and scarlet—were daring, with sexy cutouts and shapes.

A softer feminine theme included prints that ranged from happy flowers to soft country florals. Paisleys, preppy argyle prints and color-blocking decorated a variety of looks. Black-and-white suits came in graphic prints and polka dots, and glamorous styles by Miami-based Luli Fama were decorated with Swarovski crystals. —N. Jayne Seward
