L.A. Fashion Week Spring '06: Iron

A galactic palette inspired Iron’s Spring ’06 collection, which showed on Oct.19 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif.

“I took all the colors from the universe and brought them down to earth,” said Leejay, the artist-cum-designer who also serves as president of contemporary line Sheri Bodell.

“The colors surround women like an orbit in a vortex of colors,” he added.

For Leejay, creating clothing is like designing a piece of art. The collection, predominantly made from silk jersey and silk/Modal, features original prints created by the designer. The prints were named for the collection’s universal theme and included “Center of Fire,” “Orion Blue,” “Solar” and “Zenith,” complemented by solids in shades of rose, black, teal, almond, plum and lavender.

For his third collection, Leejay added silk georgette and more details such as beading, braiding, knotting and metal trim to his trademark Greek styling and draping. Also new to the collection this season were swimwear, printed thong underwear and boyshorts with matching camis, shawls and halter tops. —N. Jayne Seward
