L.A. Fashion Week Spring '06: Ashley Paige
Ashley Paige has proven that knit and crochet garments can slip out of the mainstream world of sweaters and dresses and find success in swimwear. She’ll do a victory lap when Random House Inc. publishes her book “Sexy Little Knits” in May 2006.
The Los Angeles–based designer debuted her Spring 2006 collection on Oct. 18 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios.
The spirit of the collection seemed to be captured with a rebel yell.
The sound system played classic ’70s rock, and the models flashed grins filled with false silver teeth.
Paige showed her experimental side in suits such as a bikini whose top and bottom were connected with a macrameacute;-style strip going down the midriff. Another two-piece was connected with net-like mesh.
She also showed garments to wear over the often-skimpy bathing suits, including ponchos and a long red gown. Gold arm jewelry by Christie Martin and painted cowboy boots added an exotic flavor to the show. —Andrew Asch
