Students Can Rent CAD From Tukatech
Los Angeles–based Tukatech, which markets CAD and product-development software, has opened access to its products to fashion college students via a rental program.
The program was launched earlier this year and the company reports that more than 100 schools have participated. Rental fees start at $25 per month, and rentals are available to participants during the school year and for up to six months following graduation. Students have the option to produce physical patterns at local FedEx Kinko’s stores.
A number of fashion schools have used the program to enhance their patternmaking classes.
“We are requiring our students to use the TUKAcad rental program in lieu of purchasing a textbook for the patternmaking CAD classes,” said Lori Trujillo-Cole, CAD instructor in the fashion design program at Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. “The rental cost will be less than or equal to the cost of a textbook and will allow the students to practice and perfect the skills they are learning in class by working on their own computers at their convenience.”
In addition, Tukatech provides its CAD product TUKAcad.NET 2005 as part of the curriculum at a number of institutions, including Virginia’s Radford University, ATDC in Georgia, the University College of Fraser Valley in Canada, and Southern California schools such as Santa Monica College, Fullerton College, Cal Poly Northridge, Los Angeles Trade-Technical School, Long Beach City College and Pasadena Community College.
