International Focus at Lyon Mode City
International attendance was up slightly at the Sept. 2–5 run of swimwear and lingerie show, Lyon Mode City, in Lyon France, although the show saw a slight decline overall.
Attendance this season dipped by 2 percent to 19,373, with international attendance rising 9.7 percent to 11,120. Italy, Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States took the top five spots in international attendance.
International newcomers included attendees and exhibitors from Poland, Romania, Croatia and Slovakia.
The global mood was carried throughout the show, which, this year, featured a Brazilian-themed fashion show highlighting key Brazilian swimwear and lingerie brands.
And on the trade show’s seminar slate were workshops focusing on the lingerie markets in China, Brazil, Australia and the Middle East.
At the China workshop, trend forecaster Jos Berry of Concepts Paris, said there is an “enormous hunger” for fashion among Chinese women, who are style savvy and “fantastically detail-oriented.” But she cautioned manufacturers that fashion tastes differ from region to region in China.
“The difference between Shanghai and the rest of China is enormous and the difference between Shanghai and Hong Kong is already very large,” she said.
On the Brazilian runway, looks ranged from Pantanal’s sleek sleepwear to citrus-colored loungewear from Blend Brazil. In the activewear and swimwear categories, Brasil Sul and Conceito Brazil opted for sporty pieces in the colors of Brazil’s flag.
Lyon Mode City show organizer, Eurovet, next heads to China for the debut of Shanghai Mode Lingerie Oct. 26–28 at the Shanghai Exhibition Center in Shanghai. In February, Lyon Mode City’s sister show, Salon International de la Lingerie, will open with new dates, Feb. 2–5 at the Porte de Versailles in Paris.
