Cone Shutters Two Plants
Greensboro, N.C.–based Cone Denim announced plans to close two plants in North Carolina and lay off 225 workers. After the closure, which is planned for November, Cone will have only one remaining domestic denim mill, the White Oak plant in Greensboro, which caters to the premium denim market. The company is currently building a denim facility in China and considering building another in Central America. Cone is a division of International Textile Group, which was founded last year after financier Wilbur Ross purchased Cone Mills and Burlington Industries.
