H&M California Debut

“We’re often asked, ’When is H&M coming to California?” said Sanna Lindberg, the U.S. manager for the retailer with the full name of Hennes & Mauritz “We’re pleased to say we have now arrived.”

On Nov. 19, the Swedish retailer opened its first two stores west of Minnesota. They’re located in San Francisco’s fashionable Union Square at 150 Powell St. (pictured) and at 150 Post St.

The two-story Powell Street store will be one of the largest H&M stores in the United States. It will be 35,000 square feet and stock basic apparel as well as trendy clothes for men, women and teenagers. The Post Street store will carry affordable fashions, lingerie and accessories for women and teenagers.

H&M will not end its California expansion at San Francisco. Another H&M store will open in Concord, Calif., in spring 2006. The company’s real estate division is searching for additional sites around the state, said H&M spokeswoman Lisa Sandberg. —Andrew Asch
