MODAC to Honor Photographer at Gala

The Museum of Fashion Designers and Creators (MODAC) will honor famed architectural photographer Julius Shulman at a fundraising reception Nov. 29 at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles.

The event is aimed at raising money to permanently house thousands of pieces of vintage apparel and other archives focused on California fashion.

Shulman, now 95, is noted for crafting some of the most iconic photographs in architecture. Critics say he captures the architect’s vision through his work as well as the spirit of the eras in which his photographs were taken. Shulman’s career spans 70 years and more than 70,000 images. An exhibit of his work is currently on display through January at the Getty Museum.

Shulman took a photo of the Herald Examiner building in Los Angeles, which was featured at a previous MODAC event. MODAC founder Irene Kasmer is attempting to save the building from being converted to office space.
