Veteran Pasadena Retailer Reopens
Old Town Pasadena has seen an influx recently of luxury retailers, such as New York–based Tiffany & Co. and Kenneth Cole. But on Nov. 16, local retailer Flutter will join the upscale boutique district in Pasadena, Calif.
Flutter partner Jane Popovich has been selling a variety of clothing, casual contemporary as well as evening gowns, in Pasadena since 1987.
In February, she and Jennifer Allen, her partner and daughter, closed their 10,000-square-foot store at Pasadena’s Paseo Colorado shopping village. Allen said her company believed the store didn’t fit with the mall’s tenants, such as teen and discount retailers.
This month Flutter will reopen as a 6,000-square-foot store on 54 Green St., adjacent to Tiffany & Co., and sell labels including Johnny Was, White & Warren, Isabelle Fiore and Nicole Miller.
Flutter will also continue its tradition of being a lifestyle store, retailing accessories, jewelry and shoes. The boutique’s new footwear partner is Verona Shoes, a retailer based in Studio City, Calif., which will run a 500-square-foot mini-boutique in the back of the Flutter store.
Tradition and continuity are crucial to the Flutter team, which includes longtime sales members Valerie Murphy and Ann Thorsen, who have been working at the store since 1990. Allen estimates that more than 85 percent of their business comes from return customers.
