L.A. Fashion Week Spring '06: Sheri Bodell
Los Angeles designer Sheri Bodell took a trip back to the 1960s for her Spring ’06 collection, which was previewed Oct. 20 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios. Bodell opted for sexy and flirtatious silhouettes of the era. She was thinking more Brigitte Bardot in a slipdress or a Marianne Faithfull blouse or Mia Farrow in a mini; she threw in some “Valley of the Dolls,” as well.
Save for a smattering of black, the colors were more or less neutral, with an emphasis on a nude look with flesh and suntan hues. Trousers gave way to cuffed shorts with embroidered waistbands. Instead of stud detailing, she used metal beading and rings.
The ’60s influence was seen in camisole tops with pompom detailing, fringe halters, sand-dollar-print blouses decorated with big metal rings and halter dresses with crocheted inserts.
From there, Bodell transitioned to evening with silk halter and strapless gowns in mocha, black and a blue pastel shade. One standout was a black silk opened-up blouse and pant set with the metal rings of her ’60s pieces but on a smaller scale. —Robert McAllister
