L.A. Fashion Week Spring '06: Petro Zillia
It’s no secret that designer Nony Tochterman knows how to put on a good show, but on Oct. 20, she proved she also knows how to throw a good party. Over 800 people attended her “Alice In Wonderland”–themed photo shoot event, held on the closing evening of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios.
A sound stage at Century Studios provided ample room and a “within walking distance” proximity to the photo studio–cum–runway venue. The event was held in cooperation with Disney Consumer Products to showcase Tochterman’s Spring ’06 collection. The sound stage was transformed into “Petro Zillia”–land with fantasy sitting areas, oversized mushrooms and flowers, and the classic Disney feature film projected onto a wall.
Attendees watched Tochterman and hair and makeup stylists create high-fashion looks for both her ready-to-wear collection and couture pieces based on characters from the film. Davis Factor, co-owner of Smashbox Studios, then conducted photo shoots on two magical-themed sets while the audience viewed the results on a high-tech digital screen. —N. Jayne Seward
