L.A. Fashion Week Spring '06: Oligo Tissew
Oligo Tissew designer Kristopher Enuke went for the dramatic at his Oct. 20 show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios. He opened the show with characters dressed in a British sentry uniform and as a Chinese dragon. The reference was to the 19th century Opium Wars between China and Britain, which exemplified the struggle between peace and conquest.
The designer followed the theatrics with an Asian-fusion collection featuring period-inspired linen trench coats, kimonos and stenciled dresses. The designer didn’t abandon his denim prowess and featured a number of pants with stitching details. They served as a fitting backdrop for a colorful collection of crocheted ponchos, butterfly sweaters and sweaters in deep teal and oranges.
Enuke offered a more casual side with T-shirts and tanks bearing ’60s-era poster-art images. —Robert McAllister
