Fashion as Art

The Cal State Fullerton Grand Central Art Center is hosting “Fashion Front,” a two-part multimedia exhibition and fashion show. The events feature five innovative Southern California design houses: Howe, Harveys, Matte Black, Baltazar and Rosemary’s Billygoat.

“We’re trying to highlight the unique contributions of local designers and create a closer community between the fashion world and the art world,” said co-curator Alyssa Weins.

Each designer created a gallery installation piece (some consisting of video, paintings, wearable art and photographs) depicting the fashion design process as art, Weins said. The exhibition runs through Dec. 18.

A one-night-only runway show featuring ready-to-wear collections from the designers will take place Nov. 5.
