New Product Gives Denim Distressed Look

Paramus, N.J.–based Polysoft Products, a maker of industrial scouring materials, has launched two new products aimed at the do-it-yourself consumer denim market.Polysoft’s Denim Destroyer Pads and Denim Destroyer Stencils allow end consumers to custom distress their blue jeans and other denim apparel.

The patent-pending Denim Destroyer Pad has a micro-abrasive surface to distress the fabric. The stencil kits allow the consumer to create distressed shapes—including alphabet letters, Japanese characters and flowers—on the surface of the fabric.Polysoft Vice President of Marketing Brian Bushell recently conducted a guerrilla marketing test by hosting a Denim Destroyer demonstration outside the Shibuya 109 boutique in Tokyo.

“This product is so new that the concept had to be tested. We have organized a lot of focus groups in various areas of New York and recently in Tokyo to support our presentations with large retailers and through TV shopping outlets,” said Bushell, who said this is a new direction for the company.“I am relatively new at the company and am looking to take it in new directions,” he said. “I am a big believer in differentiated and innovative products.”

Wholesale prices for the Denim Destroyer kits start at $2.94 and vary depending on the number of stencils included. The Denim Destroyer product line will be available in stores in June and online in July.
